The building, as evidenced by the memorial plaque, placed near the entrance portal, was amplified and embellished in a sober neoclassical style in 1801 by the Duke Ferdinando I di Borbone and also modified its plan in a Latin cross in 1939, while the bell tower took its present cuspidated form in 1930.
The interior, in the first niche to the right, are the remains of the fresco of Cesare Baglioni, depicting the martyrdom of Santo Stefano, coming from the old church. The altar is made of polychrome marble. It was the one of the first churches to have the archpriesthood in 1666.
