ITS LOCATION The parish is located on the provincial SP15. HISTORY The parish church of Santo Stefano in San Lorenzo, founded in 1582 by Count Giberto IV San Vitale and completed by his son Girolamo in 1582, served as oratory of the convent of the Agostiniani (until 1630). Dedicated to the martyr San Lorenzo it became a parish church in 1694, hence the name is given of “Parish church of Santo Stefano in San Lorenzo”. The church, at that time, gave to the salesi people of a low social rank but simple local community centre |
BUILDING
The building, as evidenced by the memorial plaque, placed near the entrance portal, was amplified and embellished in a sober neoclassical style in 1801 by the Duke Ferdinando I di Borbone and also modified its plan in a Latin cross in 1939, while the bell tower took its present cuspidated form in 1930.
The interior, in the first niche to the right, are the remains of the fresco of Cesare Baglioni, depicting the martyrdom of Santo Stefano, coming from the old church.The altar is made of polychrome marble. It was the one of the first churches to have the archpriesthood in 1666.
